ACF Fiorentina
Won’t be easy against this lot, 9th in Seria A and some decent results of late including a 1-0 win away to CL finalist Inter.

Do seem to lose games every now and then that they shouldn’t or you wouldn’t expect, Basel at home was one!

Some decent players including the CB Milenkovic we nearly signed a couple of years ago.

Re: ACF Fiorentina
They’ve been better since Xmas after a tough start.
Scoring a few goals as well so sitting off & letting them have the ball might not be a great idea.
Amrabat is probably their best player.

But let’s not pretend they are Man City.

Not sure you can read too much into isolated results. Didn't Southampton draw with Man City not so long ago?

Amrabat is a great player.. Would be a great replacement for Rice

Re: ACF Fiorentina
Yes, not a good start to the season for them, have got better but like us have not been very consistent and prone to a fuck up!

Been better the past few months but so have we, if anything we have had similar seasons, underperformed in the League but reached a European final.

Could be a case of who turns up on the day in the final, fingers crossed it’s us.

Re: ACF Fiorentina
It’s a 50/50 final.

They have had a bit of a purple (Pun intended) patch in recent months, beating both Inter & AC Milan in the league and reaching 2 cup finals and they have got some decent players but they are also very inconsistent and we have got players that can cause them problems.

In some ways their standing in the Italian game is not too dissimilar to ours in the English game.

Not thought of as one of the big 6 in terms of glamour or prestige but in that next group of clubs looking in.

We both have one European cup winners cup to our name during the same period as well.

Loved their team in the 90s with Batistuta & Rui Costa.

Agree Swindon, loved them in the 90's, loved their kits too.

Hopefully Repka will be backing us for this one. And a final in his home country too. Is he still banged up?

Re: ACF Fiorentina
Being in Prague and the stadium of their former club, not to mention there home town, Soucek and Coufal who is hopefully back to 100% could be critical to us lifting the trophy, be like a home game for them in familiar surroundings.

Soucek will start but expect Moyes will be hoping Coufal is able to as well.

Re: ACF Fiorentina
Sydney- Really? That's really clutching for me, did you get that from Gonzo? I don't see how that matters once the ref blows his whistle, or does it mean Soucek will be able to pass the ball :-)

For me we are slight favourites, but the reality is nobody can call it with any real confidence.

Can't see anything but a nail biting challenge, full of shit housery, cards, physicals, cynicals and drama

Going to be absolute carnage off the field too, they had a mob back in the day and I doubt with 20/25k of each out there it won't get saucy

Proper old skool game looming

They play in purple and white - anyone got any eggplant stories?

Hope it's not a bd omen, Anderlecht played in Purple and White back in the 1976 ECWF.

Hopefully we will be in the hime strip

Re: ACF Fiorentina
Have some decent players in a lot of positions.

We saw Amrabat perform very well at the Cup.

Jovic was part of the trio that had that great year for Frankfurt - along with Rebic (now AC Milan) and our friend Sebastian Haller. Has not scored a lot at Real Madrid where he went first nor at Fiorentina but still has dangerous moments.

Similar in not scoring a huge amount in Italy has been Cabral. Big body and dangerous but a bit of a flat track bully. I watched him destroy the Swiss League and Conference League with Basel but hasn't quite happened yet after he came in to replace Vlahovic.

Another I have seen a lot ( though a couple years back) is Ikone. Was part of the three Jonathans (along with David and Bamba) who helped Lille upset PSG and win Ligue 1 in 2021.
Frustrating player like Benhrama for slightly different reasons. Ikone will put a shift in, has good pace and can hit the ball for something special at times but just makes the weirdest decisions in the final third and can be very selfish.

Fiorentina’s game with Torino live on BT sport tomorrow. Might be worth a watch, but it’s a direct clash with our game.

Florentina would be a tough side but don't forget AZ BEATEN Lazio in both legs and Lazio are in the Champions League position in Seire A were as Florentina is currently 10th.

Re: ACF Fiorentina
They looked hot in and around the QF stage but struggled vs Basel (surprisingly). I'd say their only real screw up was that home defeat to Basel. Looked better when I watched the end of the 2nd leg.

They seem to have great deliveries from out wide so we'll have to have Zouma et al on their A-game. Don't think they're that hot in defence though so Bowen, Benrahma & Antonio to pummel them there.

I feel our midfield Rice-Paqueta-Soucek have stepped up last few months and are making a hell of a difference. They should be v scared of us there.

El Scorchio 10:54 Sat May 20
Re: ACF Fiorentina
And we really must make sure to use the first 5-10 minutes to Kane them scared of our midfield. That means getting on the ball, keeping it well and controlling the tempo of the game rather than immediately retreating deep into our own half and letting them settle in, calm any nerves, and stroke it around.

This doesn’t mean going crazy gung go attacking, just being bolder than the norm.

Re: ACF Fiorentina
They still have 4 games left to play
Their last fixture is 3 days before the final whereas we have 12 days to prepare. If it was me, I would say straight after the Leicester game, take 5 days off, recover, rest up etc
A small break between the last game and the fuanl could price vital considering the team have been run into the ground.

Re: ACF Fiorentina
Rotated heavily today and Vlasic's Torino held them 1-1.

Out of any real league European contention, unless maybe both Inter and Roma were to win their European cups.
